My  hubby and I got NY ID card the other day. Both of us had drivers license or other valid ID card, so basically we don’t need it. but this card come with a slew of benefits — including free membership to dozens of cultural institutions like the Bronx Zoo, the Brooklyn Museum and the New York City Ballet. Even 15% discount of City Bike.

But most of benefit of this card for undocumented immigrant. Mayor de Blasio announce that you can got this card any immigrant status. As long as you can prove your address in the NY city, you can get this card and be able to make bank account. More than 670,000 people have obtained the identification cards since the program began in January.

But some of the biggest banks in the city like JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup will not accept the cards as a primary source of identification, even though their federal regulators and some smaller banks have approved their use.

NY times tells the reason as banks have had to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in fines to settle investigations that found they had failed to adequately prevent money tainted by terrorism or illegal drugs from flowing through their branches.

Now in Japan, Many of my friends reject to have MY Number.  I don’t know the detail of My Number system but it looks like almost same system with SSN here. Japan try to have My Number now, and US try to have local ID system now. I don’t know how to say it.
